Photographer Illustrates The Strangest Laws In The United States

Many laws still in existence throughout the united states are wildly outdated, rendering them completely ridiculous, useless and bizarre. The absurdity is illustrated by New York-based photographer Olivia Locher, who catalogs the crazy rules and regulations of each state in a playful photographic series “I Fought The Law“. 1. The one about wine in teacups kinda makes sense given the number of places in Kansas where alcohol is illegal

  2. In Denmark (circa. 1933), you could not legally ‘booh’ at a stage show if the manager had struck a gong 3 times in a row. Doesnt now if that rule has ceasede to be though…. :/

  3. I believe in London (Uk) it’s illegal not to carry a bale of straw and a bucket of water in the boot of a taxi cab 🤪

  4. ↑ It’s *some* straw and *some* water, for the horse. You’ll often see a wisp of straw in a London taxi, usually hanging from the mirror.

  5. That milk should be OK, because in past, there were lost children portraits printed on milk boxes.

  6. I got to the last one with the soap and flag and wanted to retch because there are pubes stuck to the soap :o/

  7. In some town in Ohio it’s illegal to set off a nuclear weapon within city limits. In San Francisco it used to be illegal to throw rabbits from streetcars.

  8. In the town I grew up in, if you had your lion out in public it had to be on a leash. Also, if your cows got onto someone’s roof you were liable for any damages caused.

  9. Not a native (Finnish), but I recall that it is prohibited to hunt whales from a moving car (with a shotgun?) in the state of Alaska.

  10. Dang it. I live in Pennsylvania and I was going to play that dollar bill prank on someone and now I find it to be illegal. Daaaaaaamn 😂

  11. There’s an old law in the UK that still exists that says if a pregnant woman tells a Policeman she needs a wee – he must present her with his hat when no toilet is available!

  12. New Hampshire law requires petroleum powered boats to be removed from the water within 48 hours if they are “partially or completely submerged.” Your boat cannot float.

Makes perfect sense as you dont want petroleum from small engines go underwater, right?

  13. It is illegal to “fish for whales” in the desert state of Utah.

And in Michigan, a woman must get her husband’s permission to cut her hair.
