Auto Mechanics Recreate Renaissance Paintings

Photographer Freddy Fabris had always wanted to pay homage to the Renaissance masters with his photos in some way, but he wasn’t sure how until he stumbled upon an auto-mechanic shop in the Midwest. This led to a brilliant series of funny portraits with auto mechanics.

The lighting, the composition, the colors…wow. These ARE masterpiece works. Not only are the entertaining for humor value but the images are actually beautiful. What a great group of sporting fellows to be willing to pose. This lends a new perspective to the title, Master Mechanic. Thank you so much. Sharing the hell out of this.

And from their faces, I would bet the educational level of this group is higher than usual for auto repair shops. I forwarded this link to a friend in North Carolina who decided 40 years ago to do what he loves and opened his own car repair business — after getting an undergraduate degree at Duke and a masters’ degree in public policy from the University of Chicago!

  17. Anonymous July 2, 2019

More please! Some of his other work would serve as a springboard for another series!

  18. NamesNic July 6, 2019

Older But Wiser Gal: You can’t tell how educated or intelligent someone is by looking at their face.

I wish there were pictures of the originals to compare to! BRILLIANT!

  27. Anonymous July 22, 2019

I love these photos. I recognize a couple, but not all. Has the artist thought about titling the works? Maybe something that pays homage to the title of the original?

  28. Pklees July 23, 2019

I agree with kungfool. Where can I get the calendar. These are marvelous photographs.

I hope they had as much fun posing as I did seeing the photographs. They were all wonderful. I found the still life photos delightful.
