Woman Takes Anti-Selfies by “Dying” at Famous Landmarks, And It’s Hilarious

When normal people visit famous landmarks, they commonly pull out their phones and snap a selfie to keep as a memory of being there. Artist Stephanie Leigh Rose does something different: she shoots “anti-selfies” of herself “dying” and the result is quite funny. Scroll down to see for yourself!

Explain me what is death and why I should treat it with respect: as far as we know it can be as hilarious as a monty python movie or sexy as your mom and you’re having just a bad, post-catholic mind trip about how to deal with life…
…Man I’ve lost many relatives, friends, pets: try to be hilarious even if death sucks. Work on acceptance more than respect.

  2. Get a Life May 6, 2019

Why all the ridiculous hate comments… Disrespecting death?! OMFG. Get a life people. I’m hopeless at Selfies. I think I’ll change to this kind of selfie pic…. I think she’s brilliant.

  3. Anonymous May 6, 2019

She had simply copied artist Janiana Tschape’s brilliant work, “100 Little Deaths.” Not impressed.

  4. JayEmme May 6, 2019

Who was taking these pictures?!? This is freakin’ brilliant!!

  5. citizen joe May 6, 2019

Love it… if she is doing similar work to someone else, it’s not the first time that’s happened. love how each one looks like a complete face plant. I like the subtilty of the one where the crowd seems to be passing her by. And thanks to the post of “anonymous” I’ve seen the work of another artist.

    For all the #Haters **** off it’s self expression…..

  7. GadgetGirl May 6, 2019

Hm. I hate having my picture taken. This might be a great way to get others to hate trying to take my picture.

I think some people are missing the point, its not so much about death. Its humor relates more to those whose ‘lived’ life, hasn’t eventuated until they have taken numerous selfies and then immortalized them on social media. Reliving an event appears to make some people feel more alive than than ‘Being’ lived moment.

  9. mattieu May 6, 2019

these are brilliant, especially how few people react to a ‘body’ just laying there…

  10. Anonymous May 7, 2019

Death deserves no respect and must be made fun of..

  11. chris May 7, 2019

    What a laugh ! thank you !

  12. Anonymous May 7, 2019

Brilliant….made me laugh….which I think is the point. Thanks

  13. Kimm May 7, 2019

Why is she always face down? It would look more authentic if she was face up every once in awhile.

  14. Luci May 7, 2019

HAHAHA~ I was laughing out loud at work! Great job!

  15. Ted May 7, 2019

Genius and brilliant. Maybe I can get a government grant to do the same thing.

  16. Anonymous May 7, 2019

I think people who stand in front of beautiful places and take narcissistic selfies are so unbelievably boring. Her work isn’t about death! It’s about the self-absorbed weirdness of people who need their faces in the center of every photograph. I think she is inspiring, and I plan to plant my face in front of the dry cleaners and the grocery store and the florist and the gym…all the places where shallow weirdos stand and pose, as if the minutiae of their lives could ever be that interesting to anyone.

The lead singer of the band ‘man man’, ‘mr. Heavenly’ and other projects, Ryan Katner, did a series exectly like this on instagram with the hashtag #deadagain

  19. Anonymous May 8, 2019

Jeeze guys. kick a girl when she’s lying down.

  20. Anonymous May 8, 2019

    See Rome and die.

  21. Boyd Benson May 8, 2019

Insanely funny to me. A woman with this sort of humor is very refreshing..I can’t help wondering though if “crying wolf” too many times might have it’s downside.

Is it just me but i didnt smile or laugh once..was repetitive and boring tbh..genius? Hmm..let me guess what her next pose will be. I actually found the photos of real photos during or just before peoples death more touching..and of worth and substance . Each to their own i guess

  24. miles May 9, 2019

LOL. A perfect response to obsessive selfie-stickers.

Perhaps a tribute to those who have actually died taking selfies?

  25. Kat W May 9, 2019

I don’t know why, but I LOVE these. Art doesn’t have to speak to everyone to be worthwhile.

  26. Annette D May 9, 2019

    Brilliant and funny concept

  27. Ella Hall May 9, 2019

    Genius!! Thank you x

  28. JustSayNoToFascism May 9, 2019

These photos are funny as shit! Thanks for the laugh. To the folks offended: OH PLEASE!!

  29. Rebecca May 9, 2019

Bizarre. What will she do for an encore? I also quite like ‘Seniors with Vegetation on their Heads’. It was inspiring.

  30. Richard May 10, 2019

I wish I had her travel budget.

  31. Gabriel May 10, 2019

I’ve lost more people than I care to count, THIS WAS GREAT. Agree with everyone, best thing you can do concerning death is laugh at it. My mom and brother are rolling over in heaven laughing with me.

  32. Chrissie Hardman May 10, 2019

I’ve lost several people who were precious to me in the last few years and am terminally ill myself and I LOVE these! The question as to why she’s always face down, perhaps it says something about how we all become anonymous in death – nobody knows where we’ve really gone, etc. or maybe she just really hates how she looks in photos. Whatever, she made me howl 🤣😆😂

  33. Anonymous May 10, 2019

Very funny. Wonder if she got a grant to cover all that travel. If so, that IS genius…..

  34. Anonymous May 10, 2019

I’d like to think that she falls asleep suddenly. I like the one with her head in the mud in the garden. She “shoots these”? How? Tripod?

  35. Anonymous May 11, 2019

Who knew that dying caused one to spread their legs? #TheMoreYouKnow

  36. Ryan May 11, 2019

Amazing. Anybody that’s upset by these needs to relax a bit.

  37. Anonymous May 11, 2019

Repetitive. Talentless rich girl seeking attention.
Ironic if anyone believes this is a comment against selfies. Looks like it has the same effect. Must be no-life experience, hipster kids raving about it being ingenious.

  38. Maxime Moreau May 12, 2019

Hahaha! I find it quite interresting! the outcome is “abnormal” and I like seeing her just lay places, especially when there’s other people around. I enjoy seeing unusual images and these really hit the spot. thank you.

  39. Maxime Moreau May 12, 2019

I would like to say a big **** YOU ALL to all the idiots that criticise her work negatively. She is original… What’s so wrong with that?

  40. ShashiNYC May 12, 2019

Agree…well executed, of course, but a direct steal of Janaina Tschape’s groundbreaking “100 Little Deaths.” Being inspired by others is expected of young artists, but directly stealing another’s brilliant concept is just that…artistic theft. Very uncool. http://www.janainatschape.net/100-little-deaths
