Russia is a strange place. Their playgrounds are creepy, their schools are horrifying, and their parties are wild. Turns out there’s also weird obsession to take unusual selfies in toilets that look both trashy and menacing. It’s really starting to worry us that this country has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world…
I know this is only one “type” of russian pictures. But I cannot help wondering why we always get this type of pictures when it comes to russian people. Could anyone that has been to Russia let me know that this is not an accurate picture of Russia people ? Or is it?
In Russia, working toilet (like all indoor plumbing) is sign of wealth and good taste. All Russians hope one day to have their own. Toilet makes great wedding gift!

Most Russians and Eastern peoples never touch the toilet ever! Our toilets were always those kind you stand above. You see many pictures displaying the way we Russians use your type of toilet. We have good balance!

My travels thru Poland, Hungary, etc. revealed, to my surprise, toilets with a little platform where the poop piles up, to be swept away during the flush. The upside is your backside does not get splashed during the dump. However, you are treated to a good strong poop stench as well as the likelihood of accidentally putting your hand in the shit pile during the ass wipe. Otherwise, the form of these toilets is like the evil Western ones.

Well traveled and have found squat toilets every where in China,Russia, most all Eastern blocks. Almost all stand or squat. Very ancient way to shite. Only English and Norman influence began use of cut outs to sit on. Romans used this method too. Eastern peoples were much cleaner.
Contact with seats etc. spread germs to clothing then to hands and to others easily.

“Platform toilets” are standard in Germany too afaik.
I believe shelf toilets are so you can check your poo for worms!
I know whenever *I* chug down a bottle of vodka, I might just was well do it sitting on the toilet. I will end up doing so anyway.
Reminds me of an experience I had when I was high school and stayed with a family living in the Ukraine. Being the privileged and prudish North American that I am, we were out at the Circus and we went into the washroom. It was my first experience with squatting toilets my friend opened the stall door and allowed me to go first. I don’t think she realized there was a pile of poop ‘not in the basket’. I side stepped it peed and left, she went in after me and looked at me dumbfounded when she was about to go in. I knew she thought it was mine, I was mortified and I said…it’s not mine. 30 years have passed, and I still think she thinks it was me.
