  13. May 10th, 2010 at 23:12

    Aaron has a VERY GOOD point.

    I am a New Yorker too, and I spent 9/11 in lower Manhattan. It was the worst day of my life. It was not swine flu, bird flu, or mad cow. It was not some sort of contractible, treatable disease. It was something brought upon New Yorkers, and changed our lives forever.

    When someone coughs or sneezes, I don’t even lift my head. When I see a plane fly too low, or hear the loud boom of a truck backfiring, I still get nervous and jumpy. Not something to be talked about lightheartedly.

    I’m from Canada, and I had no part in the event that is 9/11. But I was wondering if you guys would take offense if you saw some people dressed as the twin towers with planes in them for Halloween. I know its a tragedy but, Tragedy + Time = Comedy right?

    Sad to say Aaron, but for most of your fellow Americans, 9/11, Y2K, the X-Flus and 2012 are pretty much on the same concentric circle of the “fear of not-America” dartboard. (thanks D. Miller.) I take nothing away from what you lived through, but the media has spackled so much crap over all three events that even the tragedy of New York vanishes into the background.

    …and Bill? nothing you said is true. Capitalism, as it stands now, fails for the same reason Communism did; those at the top were, are, and always will be filthy greedy.

    America didn’t bail out anyone- literally, not a single person. Never mind foreign countries, never mind poor AMericans, not even RICH Americans! You payed to bail out rich CORPORATIONS who caused the problems in the first place.

    And thirdly, no, there is nowhere anyone can go to get away from capitalism. Walking away from the centre of things, yu just end on on the periphery where we dump our shit and intake our raw materials and obscenely cheap labour.

    sorry about not commenting on the original material, BTW.

  19. May 19th, 2010 at 10:11

    LOL, thanks for the pics, I enjoyed them, the comments lead to another story tho…

    I’m sorry, does anyone still believe it matters who they vote for??? Once upon a time it did, and you could even buy a different newspaper or switch the TV channel and get a different point of view, a questioning of events around us… not any more. It’s all the same line now!

    Doesn’t matter where you live in the western world, vote Republican / Democrat – Labour / Tory – Labor / Liberal, it’s all the same. It’s just zig-zagging, but always heading in the same direction. It’s an illusion of reality and choice.

    Wake up… we’re all in The Matrix… and we don’t even realize it.

    @Aaron

    9/11, true, was a horrible experience to go through for some of us, especially for those who lost a family member or a friend during the event. however, the icon, i suppose, was made for humorous reasons, not to offend anyone. actually, if anyone was to be offended, it should be the afghans and the palestinians. families are being torn apart at a daily basis over there, towns and cities are being bombed, children are being killed, the people although so hopeless are trying to resist, lack of hygenic space and clean food / water, if any at all.

    if you expect everyone to sympathize with your 9/11 incident, then you should do the same with the arabs. they have it much worse than you do.

    Sites like this are supposed to make us laugh. Every single person in the world has something in their life that caused them pain or humiliation; the only way to heal from that pain is to somehow find the humor in it and learn to laugh again. So, if you find yourself offended by something written on a humorous sign, think twice before you lash out. Why are you holding on to your pain? Why strive to spread rage instead of humor?

    And as far as the political comments go, does it really make any of us feel better to call each other idiots? We believe what we believe because of personal experience, and there is no way to make someone see your point of view. The end result of conversations like this is that the participants inevitably build up a head of steam and, fueled by impotent frustration, storm away from the computer and lash out at those around them.

    Why not talk about the things we like, rather than the things we hate?

    America hasn’t bailed out anyone? Are you serious? Explain to me why 13 billion dollars went to foreign countries to help victims of WWI and WWII rebuild. Explain Vietnam, explain EVERY single act that has been made to save this world from communism. Hell, if you’d actually rather have that for a government, go ahead. You’ll get substantially less human rights, and starvation to boot! The U.S. is practically the Roman Empire of the 20th-21st century. We may fall, but we will be remembered as a great civilization. The next time you bad-mouth this wonderful country because you can’t make as much money, think of the constitution, and then name another conglomeration of people who have THIS MUCH FREEDOM.

    the first one, “when I was five years old…. I told them they didn’t understand life”. Most five year old children I know want to be mother and teacher if they are a girl, and the boys want to be policeman or fireman..
    @Garrett: dude you don’t know much of the Roman empire if you compare the U.S. to it. Thank you for bailing Europe out WWII, but “to save the world from communism”, let the communists be, like gays and other minorities you’re just frightend of them because they are different.

    i’m just gonna throw it out there that aaron said that 9/11 shouldn’t be compared with y2k and 2012, not the flus. aaron you probably should have put those flus with the 9/11 side to clarify more. atleast i think that was the point you were getting at. the not wanting events that consisted of people dying compared to something like y2k. i was too little at the time to remember it but if i’m correct it was just some programming thing where everything’s internal clocks or whatever didn’t have the ability to consider the new millenium. correct me if i’m wrong cuz i’ll feel stupid if i am XD. anyway i think i see where aaron was getting at, but thats really not the point of that picture. in my opinion its a lighthearted and well intentioned way of reminding us not to get worked up about something that (in my personal opinion) probably wont happen. i think that whoever put these pictures together and posted them wasn’t intending to have the majority of the comments be arguing about politics or verbally attacking eachother. but then again it seems like thats all anyone uses any form of comments on things anymore.

    I can take a joke but the costume idea is not a joke…it’s rude and disrespectful. I am eager for this war to be over and feel a pain for each innocent that loses their life or is injured. However, it hurts just as much to know that it didn’t take even 10 years for the feelings of 9/11 to dissipate. How quickly forgotten is the fear and justified anger? When do we feel justice has been served? America was attacked and Americans defend the enemy and make comments like we don’t know how to take a joke (or a bombing apparently) How are we supposed to take a bombing (or multiple bombings) I would like to know?
    These pictures were not meant to be a political statement. They were meant to be enjoyed but I cannot keep silent after reading a lot of the comments. This is just my opinion and each is entitled to their own thanks to soldiers who fight terrorism.

  52. July 21st, 2010 at 15:36

    @aaron
    If you feel that strongly, why dont you take off your rose tinted glasses and pulling on the trouser leg of the real people that caused your inner anger (men in suits with brief cases you vote for) you cant stop greed but you can change a need. think bout that the next time you turn over the engine on your car.

    I wish I could “like” some of these comments. Some however are stooooopid. I’m totally with the saying “terrorism is the war of the poor and powerless, war is the terrorism of the rich and powerful” I also enjoy “one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter” there are many sayings like this all of them prove true. While I am 150% against one man killing another. I am also against ignorance fighting for a higher power fueled by greed. The dude that speaks of yankees burning atlanta, good god man that was more then 150yrs ago. I’m not American, but I think ya’ll (and not all of you just some) have too much to fight for and not enough brain to even realise what ur fighting for.

    @aaron
    I don’t think that any disrespect was meant – I think that it was more of a compilation of what the American people have gone through, both the terrible and the slightly superstitious. 9/11 wasn’t being compared with Y2K, it was simply being named in the same list of what the American people have seen. Try to approach life with a less righteous standing. You might learn something.
